Receiving Credit Card Donations for a Charity (NZ)

Started by Frank Doherty -   in Accounting

Hello, our church has recently enabled donation by credit card. People donate money through a processing company (stripe) who take a percentage of the donation as a processing fee and the church recieves the balance. The problem is that the church wants to give a receipt for the full donation and absorb the processing fee as a cost to the church yet the full amount donated never appears in our bank account. How do you suggest we tackle this? Thanks, Frank
Hi, have you enabled Stripe as a payment service in Xero? I haven't used it but I'm sure you'll then be able to have the donation amount processed in full with the fees coded to an expense account for card fees.
