I've had to integrate 2 separate Square account with my new Xero software and I was completely out of my depth!

Such an amazing experience with the new Square + Xero integration! Its better than the old version. The integration is super easy to set up and use, and the support team was there to help me. Since the invoices are created automatically and the reconciliation process is extremely easy, I’m saving a lot of time. The last feature worth mentioning is Square Payments - it allows my customers to make credit card payments directly via Square. I highly recommend Amaka for every small business owner and their accountants and bookkeepers!

I just had the best experience ever with a very talented and customer service oriented rep at Amaka named Pamela. She really makes all the difference. If you get any time with her you will be rejoicing. She is extremely professional and refreshing.
I was new to Square because a client of mine is using this for his business. There were initial integration issues that created numerous errors in the Xero accounting records. Pamela is strong in both Xero & Square. She sacrificed her schedule to ensure we got the problems sorted out and all my questions and concerns were resolved. The new integration appears to be leaps and bounds better than the old one which clearly created a lot of problems. It would be fabulous if Square could simplify things even more transactionally by calculating & billing their fees monthly by way of direct debit against a business's bank account and leaving the amount paid by the customer to go straight to the business bank account to match the invoice created in Xero. Then we wouldn't need that Square Balance bank account to reconcile (which isn't an automatic thing when you reconcile in the business transactional account). If there is a direct debit authority in place then Square might find they get a better relationship with customers that are outside of hospitality.

It took me a few attempts to figure out the integration but once I had the chance to speak with Sam, an integration specialist, and she tweaked a few of the settings, it all worked wonderfully. Square/Amaka automatically creates invoices and bills in Xero and reconciles these. In my bank rec I then just need to click ok to the matched transfer from Square, reconcile the Square transactions and it is all done. The income is allocated to the accounts that I set up during the integration and each transaction is broken down into lines, so I can see exactly which account each item is allocated to and the category I assigned. I love it and it'll make reconciling Square transactions so much easier and save me a lot of time.

In relation to allowing cash payments to be mapped to a "Cash" bank account, we had considered allowing this, however we found it tends to be problematic where the exact amount of cash is not deposited (as manual adjustments are then required to balance the payment transaction to the relevant bank feed transaction (e.g. where expenses might be paid for out of cash takings).

Additionally where cash deposited might reflect more than one day of trade, it can also become a bit more difficult to reconcile (especially if there is a variance on one of those days).

We are always looking for ways to improve the integration so please feel free to get in touch with any further feedback!

It would be nice to also be able to link the Cash to a "Cash" bank account in Xero instead of a current asset so you could just do a transfer in Xero when cash is deposited. Is this possible at all? I love the new integration. I never used the old integration as it was so convoluted so there was a great deal of double entry. This is so much better. Great work!

I found the app to be easy to setup for my client. The reconciliation process is also made easier since it automatically matches transfer transactions with the money that Square deposits into the bank account.
